Sarah was with Abram when he left Haran, when he went to Shechem and Moreh where he
built his first altar and received God's promise of the land. She journeyed with him to Bethel where
he built his second altar. Because of the famine she traveled with him to Egypt and out of Egypt
again to the altar between Bethel and Ai. She saw the division of the family when Lot chose the
plains of Jordan and journeyed to Sodom. After Lot's departure, she was standing by Abram near the altar when the Lord said, "Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth." She accompanied him to Hebron. Months later she awaited his return from the slaughter of the kings when Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek. Though he was victorious in battle, yet she sensed Abram's fear when God told him to "fear not, Abram, I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward." Again at the oak of Mamre a message came to Sarah from the heavenly messengers informing her that she would become a mother. Sarah laughed, but God fullfilled the promise, and Isaac was born.
