FIRST WEEK OF STUDIES
Truths I Should Believe - Page 2

What was the help that the holy man gave and what was the help that the Holy Spirit gave?

First, let us think about the help that the holy man gave. In the first place the man had to have certain abilities plus spiritual qualities. He had to have the ability to think and to write. He was expected to be mentally alert and well briefed on the subject about which he was to write. He had his own temperment, his own personality, his own method of expression, and his own style of writing. He made use of his own language and wrote in harmony with his own feelings. Further qualifications were spiritual. He had to be sold out to God. He had to think like God, believe like God, act like God, and be holy like God. His thoughts and God's thoughts had to blend together to the extent that they became one in their opinions, one in their feeling and one in their purpose.

Now let us think about what help the Holy Spirit gave. The Holy Spirit also had to have certain abilities plus spiritual qualities. He had to have the ability to think and communicate His thoughts. He was expected to be mentally capable and well briefed on the subject about which the holy man was to write. The Holy Spirit had His own personality, His own method of inspiring, His own style of influencing, and His own system of communicating. The Holy Spirit also had spiritual qualities. He, the Father, and the Son possessed all knowledge and their opinions were absolutely the same on all subjects. What one knew, they all knew and they all knew all things including the past, the present, and the future.

There were differences between the holy man and the Holy Spirit. The holy man was limited in his knowledge. The Holy Spirit was unlimited in His knowledge. The holy man could not predict accurately the events of the future. The Holy Spirit could perfectly predict the events of the future.

When the objective of writing a Bible book became the objective of both the holy man and the Holy Spirit, the two got together, stayed together and worked together until the objective became reality. The holy man supplied his abilities and his spiritual qualities. The Holy Spirit supplied His abilities and His spiritual qualities.

What the holy man lacked, the Holy Spirit supplied. The holy man wrote, the Holy Spirit inspired. What the holy man did not know, the Holy Spirit did know. The two were teamed together and what a team they made.

What a Bible they produced!
